The Caribu 100% Australian Sheepskin Numnah includes a removable Shim Pad System.

The 4 pocket design of these horse Numnahs allows for shim pads to be added and removed via velcro closures with ease. This system is ideal to make finer adjustments to the saddle & horse, allowing horses to develop muscle without having to replace or reflock your saddle all the time.

Each Numnah pad comes with a set of 4 x high density memory foam Shims. (10mm Thick)Extra sets of shims can be purchased separately per set.

The benefits of a shim pad system with your Numnah are:

  • Helps compensate for changes in young horses due to their rapid muscle development during training
  • For fully trained horses which change muscle definition during periods of work and rest
  • Helps correct natural irregularities in the horses build
  • To help compensate for a 'lower sway back' caused by age
  • To help compensate for changes in form and condition over seasons
  • To be able to ride multiple horses in the same saddle

These are a quality half pad horse Numnah that can be used with Jumping, All Purpose and Dressage Saddles and allow an exceptional closeness between horse and rider. The contoured shape aids in proper saddle fitting and the spineless design creates an air channel, allowing a free flow of air between the pad and your horse's spine.

The 100% Sheepskin lining acts as a moisture wick, eliminating excess heat and maintaining a cooler, constant body temperature. Sheepskin pile is so dense it cools down and warms up slower than other materials. This reduces temperature fluctuations in the horse’s back muscles, reducing the risk of injury. Wool has the ability to absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture allowing you to keep your horse dry & comfortable.

Additional Features of our Numnahs.

  • A contoured half pad shape, allows better air flow between your horse’s spine and the pad.
  • Luxurious 100% Australian Sheep wool (on Skin) underside. Great for absorbing sweat.
  • Breathable Quilted outer shell. Easy to keep clean.
  • The internal padding is High Density 20mm PU Foam- designed for your horses comfort.
  • Adjustable velcro billet straps- to keep the pad in place.
  • Cordura Wear Pad

Size:
Full Size is approx 58cm long.
Cob Size is Approx 55cm long.

Measured in a straight line from front to back on the Numnah at the spine. From sheepskin base to sheepskin base. Measurement excludes taking into consideration of the fluffiness of the wool. As these are hand made, and a complex design with multiple pockets, their can be slight variances of up to 10mm.

Colours :
White with white fleece
Black with black fleece.

Care of Sheepskin

Sheepskin Wool products need a lot more care than usual. Always allow the product to dry immediately after it has become damp or wet.

Always air your products after use - no exceptions!! Horses sweat is caustic, if a product is put away damp with sweat, it will react with the sheepskin and accelerate the breakdown of the sheepskin. Repeated use of a pad without out proper drying out and airing will cause damage to the leather. Sheepskin saddle pads should be hand washed in cold or warm water (no more than 30c) using a mild soap designed for sheepskin. Avoid regular washing powders which nearly all contain enzymes or bleach. These enzymes break down the sheepskins very quickly.

It is not suggested to wash saddle pads in the washing machine because we find that the ‘agitator’ can be rough on the sheepskin and on the finely stitched quilt. Remove excess water in the pad by carefully squeezing the water out or placing in your washing machine on the spin cycle only. Do not wring the pad out as it may result in damaging the pad.

Sheepskin saddle pads should be line dried out of the sun. Please do not put this pad in the dryer or on a heating device. Full care instructions here.

I have a few of these and love them. Just wish they came in pony.

I absolutely love this half pad - I struggled to find a nice looking fleece half pad that was affordable. I found the found perfect product here and ordered a black one first and loved it so much I have a white one now as well. I got an extra set of shims for that extra lift and my little thoroughbred has never been happier AND we have received many compliments for the lovely look of these half pads! Strongly recommend :)

    I love it!

I've used it almost daily for 4 months now, still looks brand new.
Super soft and I love that it's fully covered in sheep skin to give the best shock absorption.
I struggled finding anything in my price rage, everything else either poor quality or $200+
Would definitely recommend, and would definitely buy more (although looks like won't need to for a really long time!)
The shims are definitely worth the extra, to the option with different saddles, my guy has high wither, so fitting saddles perfectly can be hard. This helps to just shim the front!
    Love love love.

Having good conformation is more important for show horses than horses involved in other fields. Good conformation is ideal for work horses and athletic horses, but it is mainly important in terms of how it influences their performance and their health as opposed to the aesthetics.
