What sets our 1200 Deniers Turnout horse rugs apart from others?

  • The Alpine winter rugs include reflective bindings & seams
  • We only use Premium 370gsm weight 1200 Denier fabrics. Be wary of cheaper 1200 Denier rugs using thinner 300gsm fabrics. (more info below)
  • We use extra wide fabric for construction - which allows us to deliver generous drops even in the bigger sizes. (as an example size 6'0 has a generous 106cm drop up to a 7’0 with a 115cm drop.)
  • No rugs is ever 100% waterproof, but ours come close.
  • We use a continuous run of fabric in the neck and body of the combo - no joins or seams in the neck line or back seam to let water in! The continuous neckline also helps to reduce mane rubbing.
  • Dual European style 'Quick release' chest buckles with extra adjustment options.
  • Very Generous 'Full Wrap' tail flaps
  • All Caribu Synthetic Rugs and Combos are rated to a waterproof rating of at least 3000MM - more than twice the minimum requirements. Our Synthetic Rugs also have have a breathability rating of at least 3000gr/m2/per24hrs. The waterproof rating relates to the fabric. No rug is ever 100% waterproof, as water will enter via seams & joins that can not be heat sealed (ie behind chest buckles, leg straps and tail flap joins). We use a continuous run of fabric in the neck and body of the combo - no joins or seams in the neck line or back seam to let water in! The continuous neckline also helps to reduce mane rubbing. Read more about our waterproofing and breathability here.

Which Denier horse rug do I need? 600D or 1200D or 1680D?

Essentially the higher the denier number, the stronger the material. Commonly in 600D1200D and 1680D - the higher the number, the thicker and stronger the weave. At Caribu we primarily produce 1200 Denier Horse Rugs. A 1200 Denier horse rug will cost you around 10-15% more than a 600 Denier - but you will get a significantly longer life from it. Their is very little difference in Breathability, Insulation or weight - what you do get is the added strength & life. Likewise a 1680Denier is the pinicale of horse rug fabrics - but comes at a cost premium. We have a helpful guide here

How much filling do I need in my horse rug?

We have a helpful guide to help with your decision Read more here..

Please refer to our Rug Sizing Guide for a guide to sizing your horse.

Rug Care: Never wash synthetic deniers in anything but cold water. Water over 40c will damage the waterproof membrane.

Very quick postage - the rug is a perfect fit and my daughter's pony has never been so snug and warm - even with our ice cold winds and torrential rain. Once again, thank you for great service and great products!
  • Reviewer: Kim Woolley
My horse loves this rug so much, she attempts to stop me taking it off. It keeps her so snug and cosy with the rain just rolling off the sides... Brilliant!
  • Reviewer: Wendy Kiemann
Excellent, fits the big horse so well. Really really pleased with the whole purchasing experience - why would you ever go back to saddlerly store to buy a rug!!
  • Reviewer: Kahla Hattch
I am very happy with this rug - this was my first time purchasing form Caribu and I was very impressed with the quick turn around time on the delivery and the rug is fantastic!! The Best I have ever used!
  • Reviewer: Amy Kerr
An extremely well made and well fitting rug. I usually use canvas rugs through winter, but find once damp they are hard to get dry and are soo heavy! This year I bit the bullet and decided to give these ago (had been worried they might not be tough enough for my horses -these combos are fantastic, keep the horses dry and warm and dont rub!!AND have been plenty tough enough for my horses - not one tear!!! VERY HAPPY! Also extremely happy with the fast service from Caribu, they were ordered and delivered within the same week! Thank you!!!
  • Reviewer: Anne

LOVE this rug! My paints love it just as much! So nice and warm, I feel terrible pulling it off them in the mornings to put their day rugs on! Excellent rug & excellent fit, fast postage. I have bought the rainsheets also, and they are brillant too, I will never go back to the saddlery to buy my rugs! I have spread the word to friends also! :) Oh, I would also like to thank you for making them so affordable!
  • Reviewer: Myfawny
    Absolute value! I'm in love.
Great style, shape, clips, density - this rug does not lack quality!! :) Quick and affordable postage ontop of a extremely affordable rug! Talk about value for money! Thanks Caribu! :D
  • Reviewer: Sonia
I got my winter rug with matching polar fleece rug last season but have only just used it. They are such good quality and I love the length of all your rugs, some more expensive rugs hardly cover the horse. Delivery is always prompt. Half the price but full quality.
  • Reviewer: Naomi
After 2 weeks of endless wet, cold and cloudy days this rug has held up fantastically and still a perfectly dry horse. Thanks guys, well done!
  • Reviewer: Kate
I will not buy any other rug for winter. All 4 horses have them, and I will be updating 2 this year. They last and last, the buckles and straps are fantastic quality. Totally waterproof, even in the heaviest rain. These rugs are absolutely of the best quality, fit and so comfortable for the horses. Even my old gelding, who will roll around, rub against anything and trash a rug in hours loves his Caribu winter. Don't go anywhere else people, if you want a rug to last and fit beautifully.
  • Reviewer: D Williams
These rugs have been great, really warm, dry even after months of rain and yet still light to throw over the horse. They are also the only rug I have used that have not rubbed my broad horses shoulders to bits. We got through the whole winter without using a bib and not a single rub mark. Really fantastic, thanks Caribu.
  • Reviewer: Myf
Absolute Value for Money. Don't waste time shopping around. This rug is Brilliant! Fantastic fit on my horse - The style just keeps getting better. Love the colors too.
I love the fast delivery, quality materials and make. Caribu have really set the benchmark for other companies in the same department.
  • Reviewer: Cherie and Mylo
After measuring my boy and buying quite a few different brand rugs, I was dumbfounded... Im sure id measured him right but I could not find a rug to fit him... They were either swimming in the shoulders or leaving most of his rear on show.... Bearing in mind price wasn't an issue... and then I stumbled upon your website.... Where do I begin... What an amazing rug...!!!!!!  I could not be happier with the design, look, features, fit, colour and was in shock that I'd finally found the one at such an unbeatable price....!! Service A+, delivery quick... And Mylo gave his tick of approval, yawning instead of the grumpy face and no rolling to get it off.... Very happy customer and even happier horse..... I will be purchasing his whole wardrobe from Caribu and will not be going elsewhere.... Can not thank you enough......!!
  • Reviewer: Erin
Last year I bought two of these rugs, and this year I have bought more for the other horses JUST LOVE THEM! I don't think I would buy any other brand of rug ever again THANKYOU!
  • Reviewer: Pru
We have had these rugs now for a couple of years - always keep our horses warm and dry. No other rug has come close to these rugs THANKS we love them.
  • Reviewer: Anna Brewin
I have been using Caribu rugs since I came back into horses again and won't put any other rugs on my horses when the weather is at it's worst. As the "proof is in the pudding", and as they say "when u r onto a good thing stick with it". And that is exactly what I have done. With multiple horses I could almost pay the same price for one "big brand" rug as it costs me for four Caribu and the quality is equal. I can only recommend to people to try Caribu and see for themselves. My friends that have purchased Caribu rugs, are equally as impressed. Great value, fit and the quality is the best.
  • Reviewer: Angela Mansfield
I've just recieved one of each of the three colours for my three horses in the post today, very quick I might add! I hope you continue with the multiple colour choices for quite a while yet, as I want to purchase spares for them all! Not that I expect to need them in a hurry, as the last one I bought three years ago is still pretty good except for two small tears! I just love the quality in manufacture, the fit, the stainless fittings used as standard and the durability. I will never go back to a saddlery for rugs, knowing I can support an Australian manufacturing business, and they are made with care and at a great price! Thankyou!!
  • Reviewer: Jane Green
I love Caribou's rug. They fit, they last, and they really as waterproof as claimed!!! I Won't buy anything else now!!! Recommend these rugs to everyone!!!
  • Reviewer: Kim Riley
Fabulous rug, so well made and fits so well. Another addition to my collection of Caribu rugs. Certainly the Caribu rugs last a long time so great value.
  • Reviewer: GSS
My horse is in his Caribu winter combo for the second year, and the rug looks as if I'd bought it yesterday. Fill is still fluffy, outer shell is not even nicked or torn; admittedly the horse is easy on rugs, but to see no damage at all is amazing. It's warm, weatherproof ... all future rugs will be Caribu.
  • Reviewer: Wendy Beckett
I've recently purchased my first horse and when she turned up she was wearing an old Caribu ripstop rug. Knowing that I would like to put her in a new one, I thought I would compare with other rugs on the market. After looking for ages I ended up purchasing another Caribu. The winter Alpine fitted perfectly (the measurement guide was a great help), and have since purchased a new ripstop rug and other products from Caribu. I can't fault the quality of all products purchased, the fantastic service, fast regular postage and best of all value for money. Thank you to all at Caribu from the horse, dogs and myself :)
  • Reviewer: Maxine
Great rug, excellent quality and great fit, will always get my rugs from you guys now!
  • Reviewer: Josephine hockley
I love your rugs, ive spent a lot of money over the years and Ive just ordered my 6th rug from you. Fast delivery and great rugs.
  • Reviewer: Kate
I have 3 horses in these rugs, two of the rugs are more than 4 years old!!!!! We live in the Hunter and recently had the worst storms we have ever seen here. All 3 horses stood out in the storms for 4 days, our stables were flooded and trees down on them, so the horses were out in the worst of weather. They were 100% bone dry under the rugs, even after the driving, freezing wind and torrential rain. Even the old rugs stood up to the shocking elements. My 27 year old adored QH was cosy and dry, and I don't think he would have survived had he been in a rug that did not keep him comfortable. I would not buy another rug from any other company. It was amazing that a rug could stand up to those conditions. I will not shop anywhere else. Congratulations Caribu on the most amazing rug for the worst of weather, the fantastic price and the durability of these rugs.
  • Reviewer: Petrina Graco
    Awesome
  • Reviewer: Anna Brewin
Have been been purchasing the 1200 Denier 300g fill for years. They are durable and keep your horse warm on the wettest, coldest & windiest days.
  • Reviewer: Ingrid
this rug is a winner ! it's so easy and quick to put on , It does not slip to one side . it's warm keeps the horse dry . I've not had one rip . i just love the clips at the front . it is a fantastic rug . i just love them .. I've got two .
  • Reviewer: Tiffany Smales
    Love these rugs
  • Reviewer: Madi
    This rug looks great!!!!!
The only bad thing is that there is only one colour in the size that fits my horse! Overall though, these rugs are great
  • Reviewer: Karen Feist
I bought one of these rugs about 18months again, and it is great. Keeps my boy nice and warm, hugs him beautifully and allows for him to move freely. Plus it is light, after having heavy canvas rugs for many years. I would recommend it not only for these features, but the price is very reasonable and doesn't break the budget for my gee gees.
  • Reviewer: Anthea Denman
Best rugs ever!!!! The dont move, therefore they dont need to be pulled back on one side or the other. Theyre long too, perfect fit!!!! Will be getting more for my other ponies this winter. Very content customer
  • Reviewer: Cali court
I have been so happy with caribou rugs. I now don't look for better rugs because I know I won't find one.
  • Reviewer: Cassane Fletcher
Brought this rug for my mini and it fits like a glove, not only that but extremely well made and kept my mini snug and warm.
  • Reviewer: Noelene Scott
My Caribu rug kept my old horse dry, while another very well known brand rug on my other horse let water through. So impressed with this as we had a huge down pour.
