Caribu 270gsm Euro-Breeze X-Long Gusset Air Mesh Attached Hood horse rugs are designed for horses with broader builds.

Available only in Sizes 5'6 to 6'9. Read our X-Long Gusset Horse Rug FAQ Here

Our 'X-Long Gusset' combo horse rugs feature X-Long length gussets which provide better comfort and freedom of movement in the shoulder area and will give a much looser fit in this area when compared to traditional short gusset combo in the same size & cut.

This custom made air mesh rug offers superior UV and insect protection, but still allows plenty of breeze to pass through the fabric and across your horse, keeping the horse cool, especially on those hot & humid summer days.

With a generous drop, tent tail flap and belly surcingles - this horse rug has been made with the Australian climate and horses in mind. Ideal for keeping the majority of flies, midges & other biters out!

Many find that the Euro-Mesh is a very good alternative to Flag rugs for horse rugs, offering many of the same benefits - but with a much more durable fabric that performs like a traditional mesh or ripstop horse rug from a strength perspective. Euro-mesh is our mid-weight air mesh, if you have a horse that is hard on rugs you may want to consider our heavy 410gsm Enduro mesh rugs.

The hood is permanently attached directly to the horse rug. The convenience of a Combo, but with the extra protection of a hood, enclosed ears and a hood poll strap* - all in one. Our hood poll strap is an added feature to helpreduce the risk of the hood moving. We do allow extra length in the necks so that the horse can graze freely when their head is down.

Dont like enclosed ears? No problem. The ears are attached & bound in such a way, that if you prefer to use the hood permanently without ears - they can be cut off down low and the ear hole will still remain bound and prevent fraying.

Caribu X-long Gusset Horse Rugs feature:

• X-Long Length Gussets at the shoulders for freedom of movement

• Made from 270GSM soft mesh fabric
• Not recommended for itchy horses - see our 410gsm range.
• UV stabilized rating of 80%+ percent protection
• Generous Full Cover Tent tail flap - mare friendly
• Belly Surcingles
• Gussets at shoulders for freedom of movement
• Reinforced dual chest straps with stainless buckles for extra security
• Rump darts, for a snug fit
• Adjustable/removable leg straps
• Fleece padding to protect the wither.
• Internal lining in the chest to help alleviate rubbing

Caribu Horse Rugs Hoods feature:

• Internal lining in the mane strip to help alleviate rubbing
• 3 x Strong Neck Straps for extra strength and easy removal.
• Enclosed Ears- the ears are attached & bound in such a way, that if you prefer to use the hood without ears - they can be removed.
• Hood Poll Strap .

Need Help with rug sizing? Please refer to our Rug Sizing Guide for a guide to sizing your horse.

5'6-6'0 Cob Size Hood
6'0-6'9 Full Size hood

# 6'0 is available with either a Cob or Full size hood attached. Generally we only recommend a COB size hood with a 6'0 rug which fits 90% of horses. Only order a Full Size hood if you are 100% sure. A Full size hood is a large hood and generally only used on larger TB's & Warmbloods. Ask us if you are at all unsure.

# 6'3 is available with either a Cob or Full size hood attached. Generally we only recommend a Full size hood with a 6'3 rug which fits 90% of horses. Only order a Cob Size hood if you are 100% sure. Ask us if you are at all unsure.

Should I use Caribu's 410gsm 'Enduro' Mesh or the 270gsm 'Euro-Breeze' Rugs? To read lots more about our Fly Mesh with comparison pictures, follow this link.

Rug Options (Must attach your self).
• Mesh Tail bags are available as an option (self attach), read more info on tail bags here
• Mesh Eye Covers are available as a self attach option -more info here
• Mesh Nose Flaps are available as a self attach option -more info here

*Horses are unpredictable animals and there is always a risk of a horse dislodging a hood from scratching, snagging or other mischief and then panicking if their vision is effected. When using hoods on horses you need to consider the horses temperament, location to other horses, environment and their overall suitability for wearing hoods. We recommend only using hoods in safe environments where the horse can be regularly supervised at all times. Please read our detailed user guide on using hoods and masks, things you need to consider, as well as information on correct adjustment of poll straps on this link

Hi All, I and my horses are big fans of Caribu rugs. I have one horse with Queensland itch and one with sensitive skin. I highly recommend any of the rugs and both of mine have a selection of the rug range. The rugs last, my boy with the itch is very hard on any rug he wears, one of his mesh ones is in its 3rd season and going strong. All rugs fit very well, better than any other rugs I have come across in my 25 years + being involved with horses. Keep up the great work. Regards Justine

Love these Rugs - the long gusset is perfect for my Broad mare. Have had so many issues trying to find her rugs that fit with her width. !!

awesome rugs my horses live in caribu rugs thank you

I purchased the X-Long Gusset Fly Mesh for my broad 15.1h Paint. I was having to use 6'3 rugs because of her width even though she measures closer to a 5'6.
I purchased the 6'0 X-long gusset and it the fit is so much better, could probably have gone to a 5'9.
Will definitely be buying the X-Long gusset ripstop cotton as well.

Thanks for creating a rug for the wide ones!
