Caribu's 480gsm (17oz) Corespun Wool Lined Canvas neck combo horse rugs are our premium winter canvas option.

Corespun canvas comes at a higher price, but you reap the benefits of a lighter, stronger better performing rug overall. Our winter Corespun Canvas Neck combos horse rugs feature built in ripstop and a standard half height Wool blend internal blanket lining to keep your horse snug and warm in the coolest of weather.

Our Canvas horse rugs feature gussets at the shoulders for freedom of movement, double chest fittings for extra security, rump darts, adjustable/removable leg straps and double cross over surcingles. Our combos also come with anti rub lining in the shoulders and mane area. .

You will also notice that we use a generous drop compared to our competitors. We specifically manufacture the fabric in wider rolls - which allows us to deliver generous drops even in the bigger sizes (as an example size 6'0 has a generous 106cm drop up to 7’0 with a 115cm drop.). Our Canvas rugs feature the same drop that we use on our synthetic turnouts, to insure that any under rugs are protected from the weather.

Caribu Corespun Canvas Horse Rugs feature:

• 480gsm Canvas (17oz) Corespun Canvas
• Immersion Proofed
• Shoulder Gussets for freedom of movement
• Dual Tone Polypropylene Trim
• Very Generous Drop
• Rump darts
• Adjustable/removable leg straps
• Belly surcingles
• Dual 25mm chest buckles
• Three x 19mm neck buckles
• Tent Tail Flap
• Anti Rub lined chest and mane area
• Anti Rub lined tail flap
• Half Height 270gsm wool blend blanket lining in body and neck areas. We use a high quality wool fiber lining, not cheap synthetic felts. Our linings don't need to be as thick as a felt lining to give the same insulation, our linings are thinner and lighter. Once your canvas becomes water logged, a felt lining will draw the the moisture through the canvas like a sponge. A wool lining will hold the moisture at bay much longer.

Available Colours: Victoria Blue. or Green

Please refer to our Rug Sizing Guide for a guide to sizing your horse .

What are the benefits of Core Spun Canvas? Numerous! A traditional canvas thread comprises of a blend of numerous fibers grouped and spun together to create a single thread, (At a simple level think of braiding your hair!) which is then woven into a canvas. Corespun canvas is made from a much more intensive process. Each thread consists of a strong centre core of polyester, which is then tightly entwined in a 100% Cotton outer layer. This creates a very strong dense fabric that is considerably lighter and stronger, but achieves the same performance as a much heavier traditional canvas otherwise would.

Caribu Core Spun

The Image above illustrates the construction of a Corespun thread.

Our canvas is proofed via an immersion treatment. (not wax coated) and generally delivers improved performance compared to the wax coated canvas. We quote our canvas rugs as being Showerproof. In our mind to call a rug waterproof, it has to be able to withstand extended or heavy wet weather and still keep your horses dry. (something our synthetic rugs and combos do very well) Any Canvas slowly absorbs the water over time, getting heavier, until it breaches the underside of the canvas. Water will also enter via stitching seams, over time this reduces as the stitching threads will expand and general grit will tend to seal the stitching along seams, however there is always risk of water entry, especially in initial use. We see many retailers advertising their wax coated rugs as 100% waterproof - which is misleading.

Read more detailed information on Canvas Waterproofing here.

## Prior to using, we suggest you thoroughly wet the canvas with a hose and let the rug dry fully in the sun. This is necessary to allow the fabric to settle and threads to expand, if you fail to do this you may find your rug absorbs excessive water in the initial exposure to rain. See our Canvas Care Guide
