It is better to feed horses at ground level in a safe feed bin than always at chest height in a stable or yard.
Head down feeding facilities lower airway drainage of lung fluids as a horse eats to help reduce the risk of airway disease, especially after long distance travel.
It encourages a more natural feeding posture to mimic grazing, requiring more chewing and salivation to swallow, which in turn can improve digestive efficiency and minimize the risk of stomach ulcers and colic.
