Caribu Cotton Fly Bonnet - with Ripstop

This is a great alternative to the traditional Fly mask. Made from Diamond weave ripstop Polycotton, these bonnets are lot more flexible and comfortable that the stiffer mesh fly masks. The nose flaps are also great for those of us who have horses that suffer from sunburn.

We find that the horses tolerate these bonnets better than a traditional mask and are less likely to remove them. They also offer a great alternative than using a hooded rug for ear protection. The unique locking tab also allows for lots of adjustment - to insure you get a good fit.

An excellent fitting fly bonnet that offers:-

    • Great fly and insect protection.
    • Extra strong adjustable velcro locking strap, with double locking action to make it a challenge for any horse to remove.
    • Unique completely enclosed ears, which are especially good if your horse gets bitten by insects on the ears or if you have show horses - and you need to clip out there ears for showing.
    • Complete with a soft fleece trim to prevent rubbing and a snug fit all the way around to keep the flies out.
    • Nose Flap to help with Sunburn
    • Stiff mesh eye spheres with adequate space between the mask and your horses eyes to insure there is no interferences.
    • Fully machine washable.

Don't like Enclosed Ears? With this design the ears are attached & binded in such a way that if you prefer to use the hood permanently without ears - they can be cut off down low and the ear hole will still remain binded and prevent fraying.

Available Colours: White with Blue Ripstop - as shown

Suggested Sizing: Please use the following as a guide only (horses heads can vary so much in shape). There is generally overlap in sizing as the masks do have a lot of adjustment.

Extra XSmall Pony - 4'3 to 5'0 (no Longer Available)
    Pony/Small - 5'0 to 5'6
    Cob/Medium - 5'6 to 6'0
    Full/Large - 6'3 to 6'9

    Our Price $27.95 (RRP $46.95+)

Please keep in mind that if you haven't used a fly mask on your horse before, insure you can adequately supervise them during initial use. Horses will either tolerate a mask or they wont. If its the later, they will do what ever they can to remove the mask. Itchy horses can via rubbing the mask on their legs or any available object dislodge the fitting of the mask. Please use common sense in fitting to your horse.

Great bonnet, I have bought one for each of my horses, one horse loves to dress up and practically put it on himself the other horse has an issue with touching his ears, yet has no problem with his bonnet, also both horses have not managed to remove them.

Hands up if you have a horse that is driving you crazy with the dreaded itch?

What causes Queensland itch and what can I do to manage It? The usual cause of Queensland Itch is a hypersensitivity to the bites of sand flies (midges) of the species Culicoides. While the bite of the midge is an irritation, some horses develop sensitivity to the bite and will rub themselves so much that they cause injury to their skin and destroy their rugs in the process.

Dear Caribu, I recently purchased a fly mesh rug with attached hood for my new gelding who suffers severely from Qld itch. This rug has been a godsend! It is cool enough for him to wear 24/7 in the hot qld sun, yet it is strong enough that it holds up to his rubbing on trees and fence posts. I am pleased to say that since wearing this rug his hair is now growing back and he is much more comfortable. Thank you.
