Caribu 1200 Denier 300gr Lined Waterproof Turnout Horse Rug.

The Caribu Alpine is a 1200 Denier Synthetic Ripstop Turnout horse rug with 300gm of filling- to keep your horse warm and snug in the worst of weather. This horse blanket is great design with quality materials and construction. The fabric breathes to keep your horse dry, but allows sweat and moisture to breath out to eliminate chills.

What sets this rug apart from others?
We use an advanced 1200 Denier fabric with polymers. The hi-tech manufacturing process insures that the denier fabric works to keep water out - but allows the humid/moist air to escape out through the material keeping your horse - dry but allows sweat and moisture to breath out to eliminate chills. 1200D offers superior strength compared to a 600D, but with the same Breathability and insulation.

All Caribu Synthetic Rugs and Combos are rated to a waterproof rating of at least 3000MM - more than twice the minimum requirements. Our Synthetic Rugs have a breath ability rating of at least 3000gr/m2/per24hrs - so you can rest assured that your horse will be snug in the worst of weather. Keep in mind that many advertised waterproof rugs are not breathable. (nor do they meet ratings for waterproofness!!) Read more about our ratings and breathability here.

Additionally all our 1200 Denier fabrics incorporate a Ripstop design into the fabric.

    Feature Packed-
    • 1200 Denier Breathable & Waterproof fabric (Longer Life & much stronger than 600D)
    • Built in Ripstop for extra strength
    • 300Gram Polyfill lining
    • Taped seams & stitching for extra waterproof performance
    • Two front chest buckle closures

Please refer to our Rug Sizing Guide for a guide to sizing your horse.

Which Denier do I need? 600D or 1200D? At Caribu we only produce 1200Denier Rugs. 1200 Denier uses double the thread weave over a 600D fabric. 1200D offers far superior strength and durability and will far outlast a 600D rug. Their is very little difference in Breathability, insulation or weight - what you do get is the added strength & life.

How much rug filling do I need? 300grams is ideal for Winters in both the Northern & Southern states. Many manufactures offer there rugs in a 100 to 200gram version. This is more for marketing than actual benefit. The rug generates its warmth by capturing the air pockets in the poly fill lining. Less than 250grams grams of Poly fill has very little insulation effect as their isn't enough body to the filling to trap air and create an insulation layer. Its' not until you get upwards of 250grams+ that you get enough body in the poly fill to make a real difference. Keep in mind that polyfill packs down over time , if you start off with to small amount of fill to begin with - after a few months you will be holding your rug in your hands and be contemplating buying another one. A 300gram rug should last you many seasons.

LOVE this rug. Fits like a dream, keeps the water out and the warmth in without making her sweat. And where other brands rub her shoulders raw, Caribu doesn't! Very happy!

Why does waterproofing in synthetic rugs vary so much? We hear many nightmare stories of synthetic rugs that just don’t perform and leak like a sieve. In many cases they are often leading brands that they have paid big $$ for.

A guide to understanding horse rug deniers. Why is 1200 denier better than 600 Denier? Are you getting what you pay for?

Hi I recently bought the hybrid Mesh rug for my gelding. I would just like to say what a fantastic rug, we had a full week of high 30s to low 40's and my horses (my mare has a similar one) were the only ones to keep their rugs on, all the other horses on the property were stripped of their rugs as it was just too hot. The rug stayed cool enough to keep my gelding safe from the insects and the burning sun. Regards Nicole
